Laura Koehn, Principal

What an amazing year we have ahead of us!  I am Laura Koehn (pronounced “Cane”), and I am the principal of Deer Creek Elementary School. DCES has a rich history of academic excellence and community involvement.  Our teachers and staff are highly trained professionals who are committed to providing the best possible educational experience for each little Antler who crosses their path.  Each child at DCES is special and unique. The goal of all DCES staff is to treat each child as an individual and provide the resources necessary to help each child reach his/her full potential.

I am truly blessed and honored to be working with you and your children. Elementary age children have a special place in my heart. Throughout my career, I have worked with elementary students, and my goal is to nurture, encourage, and love each child in my school as if they were my own. I can’t think of any other occupation I would rather be doing.

I come from a long line of educators, and I have been in elementary education for over twenty years. My professional degrees include a bachelor’s degree in chemical dependency and a master’s in education. I taught pre-kindergarten and kindergarten in three different schools. After receiving my principal’s certification in 2003, I served as an assistant principal for five years—three years in Putnam City and two years in Deer Creek—before becoming the principal of Deer Creek Elementary School in the 2017-2018 school year.

I am happily married to my husband, Chris, and we have three beautiful children.  I love being their mom and enjoy participating in their school and extra-curricular activities.

My goals are to build relationships with everyone who is involved in the life of our school; to help facilitate the educational needs of each student; and to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students, faculty and staff.

My desire is to always be available to students, parents, and staff. If you need anything, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Laura Koehn
